Thursday, September 20, 2018 Well we were able to experience something absolutely incredible today! One of our chrysalis emerged right before our eyes! We knew it was really close so we left it on the table and during snack time, it happened! It was very cool to watch! I put some pictures of us watching on Shutterfly. We wrapped up our apple unit today by making some paper apples. We practiced our cutting and gluing skills. They were give a piece of red and green construction paper and had to cut pieces to glue on their apple. For the most part, we have some very good cutting skills! We are starting our friends unit so today I read Bear's New Friend. This is a great book that talks about being nervous when we meet new friends. It is also great for making predictions. We learned a new name chant that is helping us learn our friends names as well. Mrs. Gorr came in today and showed us her rain stick. We all got a turn to try it. Our SEEDS magazine started today as well. Our Gospel story is about Jesus welcoming us. We read a story about 4 kids who were welcomed in to the church. One last reminder for anyone who wants to join us in the parade on Saturday! Meet us at float #45 between 11:30-11:45 and wear your new t-shirts! We should be right around the community pool area. If you would like to help us throw candy, please bring an ice cream bucket. Thanks! Have a great weekend! Mrs. Busch
Tuesday, September 18, 2018 In your child's backpack is a special gift from us here at Little Saints Preschool. We would love for your child to wear it in the parade on Saturday if you are able to join us. We are float #45 so we will be done fairly early on and can watch the rest of the parade. If not, please feel free to wear it and advertise our awesome school! We continued working on the letter A today. We said it loud, we said it very quiet, and we sang the sound. We also read the book My Favorite Apple Pie and learned about all the stages of an apple tree. They have been practicing counting as well. Mrs.Schmitz helped them paint some leaves with the fingers and they had to count out loud as they put them on their tree. They were still wet so they will go home on Thursday. We couldn't get outside today so we did some large movement in room B with the Smart Board. We went on a "Bear Hunt", got some ants out of our pants, and did some "Bean Bag Boogie!" We also had library today. Have a great night! Mrs. Busch
Thursday, September 13, 2018 We had another great day today! Little bits of progress each day. Just a reminder that I will be placing book orders tomorrow. We continued with our apple theme today and read the book Apples! Apples! We learned that apples are a fruit and that they have seeds inside. We also learned about the many things we can make out of apples (pies, juice, applesauce) . We started shapes today too. We will be working on the square and the numbers 1-4 over the next few weeks. Ask your child if they remember how many sides the square has. Today I introduced them to their imaginary bubble. This is our bubble space around us that we are not allowed to go in unless we ask. We are really working on keeping our hands to ourselves and in our laps on the rug. Next week's theme is friendship so we are going to be talking a lot about sharing and taking turns. Mrs. Gorr came in for music today. She brought some really cool instruments to show us. Next week she will be bringing up more for all of us to try them. I forgot to mention Happy Birthday to Madisyn on Tuesday! Have a great night! Mrs. Busch
Tuesday, September 11, 2018 We made it through day 2! I can tell that we are making progress even if it is just tiny baby steps. We sat just a couple minutes longer on the rug and our line in the hallway looked just a little bit better than last week. I sent an invite to our Shutterfly page a few days ago. Please let me know if you did not receive it. I also sent home today a letter if you want to add a work/home email or a grandparent email that would like to see our pictures of our class. Also in their folders is an invite to join us for the Dozinky parade and our monthly newsletter. Our theme this week is apples! We read the book The Biggest Apple Ever and practiced identifying numbers 1-4 by making some apple trees and putting the correct number of apples on each tree. They are hanging in the hall. Each project we do has a coordinating lesson with it. For example, today we practiced holding a glue stick and showing them how much glue you need to use. We started specialist today too! We went down to the library and checked out a book from Mrs. Stavos. We also read Read It, Don't Eat It and talked about the proper way to care for our books. Books can be brought back whenever but are due in 2 weeks. Have a great night! Mrs. Busch
Thursday, September 6, 2018 Phew! We made it and had an awesome first day! We will be working a lot these next couple months on learning how to follow directions and routines. With a full class of 20 it is going to be extra important to set those boundaries and practice them right from day one. Today we learned how to wash our hands the correct way, walk in a straight line, raise our hand, and to wait patiently when someone else is talking (this is a hard one!) ;) We read the book Baby Duck Goes to School and talked about how some of us might have been scared or nervous coming to school on this first day. Surprisingly, there were a lot that said, "No." :) They all helped finish our bulletin board this morning as well. We made some "corn" to put on it. I will send a picture soon. I am having trouble getting my pictures to send from my phone in order to get them on the website so I will post some from our first day as soon as they come through. Book orders are in their folders. If you would like to order, you can either send a check to school written out to "Scholastic" or order online using our classroom code that is at the top of the page. I will be placing the order on Friday, September 14. There is a supplement to our Gospel Weeklies that is in your child's folder. It is a little booklet that you can keep at home and go over with your child if you so choose. My apologies for any duplicates on paperwork that might come home. Mrs. Schmitz wasn't sure who had received them and put them in most folders. Just one more reminder about appropriate shoes. As much as they love the "croc" type shoes, they tend to get rocks in them quite easily so when we are on the playground we are dumping shoes every couple of minutes. Please have them wear tennis shoes whenever possible. Thank you! Hope to see most of you at Giesenbrau on Friday night for a drink and some fun to meet other families. Have a great weekend! Mrs. Busch
