Wednesday, September 19, 2018 With the rainy weather today, we weren't able to get outside so we did some "Bean Bag Boogie" and some other movement songs in the classroom instead. Some of us have some great dance moves! ;) We are continuing with the letter O today as well as the rectangle. At this age level, we primarily focus on the short vowel sound. We read the book Lacey Walker, Nonstop Talker and talked about the importance of listening. If we are talking all the time, we can't hear what others have to say. Our journal entry today was about finding a friend and drawing their picture. We talked in great detail about all the different parts of a person that we need to include in our picture (eyes, ears, nose, mouth, fingers, feet, etc.) as well as using the correct colors for their hair and eyes. Mrs. Gorr came in for music and taught us a pie song using the rythym sticks. During the last hour of our day today, one of the butterflies emerged from the chrysalis. At pick-up, we tried to let it go. It wasn't quite ready to fly away so we laid it gently on a leaf until it is ready. We still have 3 more to go! Have a great night! Mrs. Busch Monday, September 17, 2018 I am not a fan of winter, but this heat is getting tough to take! The kids are handling it like troopers! It is definitely warm in the classroom but they are welcome to grab a drink of water whenever they need. It sounds like it will cool off this week. In your child's folder is a special present from the Little Saints Staff. We took a lot of time designing it to make it just right. We would love for you to join us in the parade on Saturday and wear their "gift." I would love a few more family pictures on our bulletin board. If you remember, please send one in to hang up on our wall for the year. Thank you!!! This week is all about names! We read the book Chysanthemum. It's a story of a little mouse that loved her name until she went to school and was teased. In the end, her teacher tells the class that she is also named after a flower and she realizes how much she does love her name. We are also working on the letter O this week, the number 2 and the rectangle. In art, we made some mosaic names that are hanging in the hall. We also had library today. Have a great night! Mrs. Busch
Friday, September 14 We made it through our first whole week of school! This is an amazing group of little munchkins. As parents, you should be very proud! We wrapped up the letter L today by reading Llama, Llama and the Bully Goat. It was a great way to review our L sounds as well as talk about how to be bucket fillers and be kind to her friends. We made some adorable llamas out of the letter L that are hanging in the hall. Friday's are gym days so we went to the gym and played "red light, green light." We practiced running, skipping, and galloping. Our end of the day was STEM time. I put out some toilet paper rolls, some cotton, some stickers and gems, and popsicle sticks and let them create! Some took their creations home where others are on the ledge drying until Monday. Have a great weekend and stay cool! Mrs. Busch
Wednesday, September 12, 2018 Your child is coming home with a Shutterfly sign up sheet if you have not signed up already and a parade slip if you are able to join us for the parade. We would love to have as many families as possible. Thank you for considering! We started music today with Mrs. Gorr. She brought up a really cool drum that we used to help learn our friends names and for Mrs. Gorr to learn them as well. We are working on the letter L this week as well as the square and the number 1. On our Parent Board in the entryway you are able to see what we are working on. We will often post parish information there as well if it is pertinent to the preschool. We read the book Me I Am and The Letter L Book. See if your child can name something that starts with that letter. All of our monarch caterpillars are now in their chrysalis and now we are just waiting. Pictures have been updated on Shutterfly as well and book orders are due on Friday. Have a great night! Mrs. Busch
Monday, September 10, 2018 Our Shutterfly site is up and running. You should have received an email invitation inviting you to our site. If you did not, please let me know. On Wednesday, your child will be bringing home a sign up sheet for any other emails you would like to invite to our site (work emails, grandparents, etc.) I have added some very cool pictures from today. Check them out! This week's theme is "All About Me." We will be talking all week about the different parts of us that make use special. God made only one of us and even though we are all different, we always treat others the same. We looked at our eyes in the mirror today and colored our paper eye the correct color. I am amazed at how many blue eyed kiddos in our class! We also read the book It's O.k To Be Different. We witnessed a miraculous thing today too! Our monarch caterpillar wrapped itself in its chrysalis right before our very eyes! So cool to watch. We will be watching it transform into a butterfly and release it when it's ready. I introduced the word migration and we talked about what it means. During calendar time, we are graphing the weather and so today we started to talk about what a meteorologist does and I also introduced the word precipitation. We had our first day of library today. Your child checked out a book and is able to keep it for 2 weeks. Feel free to put it in the bin at the entrance whenever they are finished. It does not have to wait and come back the following Monday. Have a great night! Mrs. Busch
Friday, September 7, 2018 We had another great day! Just another reminder to make sure your child wears or brings tennis shoes to school each day. The rocks outside on the playground are hard to run in and we often will run laps in the gym during the winter time as well. We read the book How Full Is Your Bucket and talked about the imaginary bucket that we have over our head and that we need to do nice things to others to help keep their buckets full as well. We made some paper buckets and wrote down some things that we are going to do to help fill others buckets. Ask your child what they wrote down. We played with the parachute for gym time today. We made popcorn, had a storm, and ran underneath. Ms. McNamara has been busy building a beautiful garden for caterpillars and has found 4 or 5 of them for us to watch in our live garden in our classroom. Over the next few weeks we will be watching them turn into Monarch butterflies before we release them and send them on their way to much warmer climates. I hope to see many of you tonight at Giesenbrau for an adult social hour from 5:30-7:30. Come join us! Have a great weekend! Mrs. Busch
September 5, 2018 Wow! What an awesome group of kiddos! They were such great listeners today, let's pray that continues every day. We had a very busy morning and we learned a lot of rules and procedures but they caught on super fast! We started our day with some free play, then moved on in to room B where we started calendar, did a little GoNoodle (dancing and singing), and learned what a meteorologist does when we had to graph our own weather. We aren't starting a letter or number of the week until next week. This week is all about learning the rules and just getting to know each other. We read the book Mind Your Manners in School which helped us learn how to treat each other and our school. In art, we drew a picture of something or someone that we did today. These are in their folders. I asked them at the end of the day what their favorite part of the day was and there were a lot of, "making new friends, "going outside," and "doing art projects." Check out some pictures in the photo link. There is a lot of stuff in their folders today, so please review all of it. I still had a couple of kiddos without folders, please make sure your child brings a folder with them to school each day. Thanks! September calendars will be going home on Friday as well as a note with any paperwork that I am missing. Scholastic book orders are in their folder. You can either write a check out to Scholastic and send it in with their order or just order online. The link and my teacher code are at the top of this page. I will be placing orders next Friday, September 14. Since we are a family at home and we like to talk about our "school family", to help us bridge that gap, we are asking that each family send in a family picture that we can hang on our bulletin board in the classroom. Thank you for your help with this. Their marathon t-shirts are in their backpacks. Please have your child wear these on Friday's until Christmas if possible. We know there will be some Fridays that it gets forgotten so no big deal! I am looking forward to a wonderful, creative, fun year with these kiddos. Thank you for entrusting me to help mold and nurture your child. Mrs. Busch
