May 19, 2021 We had a wonderful last full day of Prek! This morning we were able to play with some new playdough toys. We had a dentist kit and a pizza shop. This was a lot of fun! They all really enjoyed it. We then celebrated a couple of birthdays. They have birthdays right away in the summer so we celebrated today. They both brought treats that are in backpacks. Thank you! We got to see our 8th grade buddies today. They read us books and we had a special snack with them. For small group today we drew a picture of what we look like on the last day of prek. For art we traced our hand on a paper with a special poem on it. We have some bird nests outside. One of the baby birds came right up to the our classroom window. How fun! We also had someone lose a tooth! What a fun way to end the year!

May 17, 2021 Its the last week of school! Hard to believe. We had a very busy day today. We spent the morning practicing for graduation. This went very well and we are all very excited for Friday. After graduation practice we went outside and had a popsicle party. They all got to put out their beach towels and enjoy the beautiful weather and a popsicle. When we got inside we did our art project. We cut out a flower and then ripped apart some paper to glue on it. We have also been working on a memory book. The kids all went around to each other and had them sign the book. This was very fun!

May 14, 2021 Happy Friday! This morning during circle time we had a visit from the school counselor. She introduced herself so that the kids will know her when they are in Kindergarten. Our read aloud today was Play Ball! We talked about all the different ball games that we play or could play. We celebrated a birthday today. She brought a special treat that we had for snack and is in our backpacks. We also practiced for graduation. Hard to believe we are going into the last week of school! We went to the gym for the last time this year. We played on scooters. Lots of fun! For art today we drew some shapes on paper. We then painted them different colors. For small group we used straws and pipe cleaners to build different shapes. We got outside for a little bit today before it started raining.

We then talked about all the different things that can bounce. We also continued to work on our graduation songs and a poem. They are all getting very excited for graduation! We had a dance party today. We have lost 10 teeth total in the class this year so now we are celebrating by dancing! For art today we did a splatter drop painting. We put paint on a pom pom ball and dropped it to see what happened. Lots of fun! We went outside to do this. When we were not painting, we played with bean bags, bowling, and the parachute. For small group today we used yarn to measure our heads. We then checked to see if our head was bigger or smaller than a balloon. We enjoyed the beautiful weather today! So glad it is starting to get warmer outside!

May 10, 2021 I hope everyone had a great Mother's Day! We are going to have a very busy last two weeks of school. This morning we went down to the music room to practice our graduation songs. They did a wonderful job. They are all very excited for graduation! During circle time today we read the book The Three Billy Goats Gruff. We also had our last shining star of the year. Hard to believe the year is almost over. For art today we worked on our Father's Day gifts. For small group we played sight word memory. We are also working on a memory book that they will take home at the end of the year.

May 5, 2021 Happy Cinco de Mayo! We had a wonderful day today. This morning we got to go to the gym and watch the 7/8 grade play, The 10 Best/Worst Things About Middle School. The kids all really enjoyed watching this! For circle time today we talked about Cinco de Mayo. We learned what it is, how we can celebrate it and read the book Marco's Cinco de Mayo. We also had a pinata and got some candy! We worked on our graduation songs today. We are getting close! For small group today we worked on a patterning worksheet. For art today we made a sombrero. We were able to get outside today and enjoy the nice weather!

May 3, 2021 Happy May! We had a busy day today. This morning we painted handprints for our art project. We also worked on Mother's Day things. During circle time today we celebrated a birthday! We also started a new unit on balls. We talked about some of the games we could use a ball to play. Our read aloud was Little Red Hen. We talked about the importance of helping our friends and family. For snack today we had a special birthday treat. Thank you for bringing cupcakes for everyone! We had music class today. We worked on our graduation songs. For art today we used the handprint from the morning to make the Little Red Hen. We then drew some things around it that they did in the story. For small group today we talked about tongue twisters, retold the story of the Little Red Hen, and identified numbers.

April 30, 2021 Happy last day of April! Hard to believe we are going into the last month of school already. During circle time today we played a sorting game on the smartboard. We sorted different objects to where they go (recycling, compost, landfill, or electronic waste). We then read the book Dinosaur Woods. This talked about endangered and extinct animals. We had a conversation about what that means. We practiced our graduation songs today. They did really well with this! We went to the Mary Garden instead of the gym today. We did parachute outside. It was a lot of fun and the weather was beautiful. For art today we used a recycled egg carton and turned it into a turtle. We also made some cards for our 8th grade buddies since they will be graduating soon. For small group we worked on counting and writing numbers.

April 28, 2021 Happy Wednesday! This morning we made May Day baskets and flowers. They enjoyed this activity. For circle time today we read the book Peter's Chair. It was about a boy who reused his chair for his new sister. We also watched a video on how to sort recycling. We had SEEDS today. We talked about what community means and what communities we are a part of. For small group today we cut and did a recycling sort. We were able to play outside this morning and enjoy the beautiful weather! This afternoon we had a special guest. We were able to have someone come in and talk about dental health. She put on a puppet show for us. It was very special! We learned about healthy/not healthy foods, how to brush, and how to floss.

April 26, 2021 Happy Monday! This morning we painted a toilet paper roll. We used this during art time. During circle time today we did calendar. We then watched a video about recycling. We talked about ways to help the earth. Our read aloud today was Don't Lose it, Reuse it! It talked about ways to reuse certain items instead of throwing them away. We had music class today. We practiced our songs for graduation. They are doing very well with these! For art today we used the toilet paper roll we painted and turned it into an octopus. For small group we did a recycling graphing activity. We also made a line of blocks and used a tape measure to see how long it was. We enjoyed the beautiful weather today! Can't wait for more nice days!

April 23, 2021 Happy Friday! We had a great day today! We started the morning by coloring some fish pictures for the fish fry next Friday. For circle time today talked more about recycling. We read the book The Paper Bag Princess and talked about how we can reuse paper bags. We also talked about words that end with "it". We have been working very hard on our songs for graduation. For art today we used crayons and watercolors to make a rainbow. For small group today we played Earth Day bingo.

April 19, 2021 Happy Monday! This morning we did a craft. They were each able to make their own flower out of paper. We hung them on the door. We also got to explore some recycled things. They had fun creating with them. During circle time today we talked about where trash goes after we throw it away. We watched a video about it and then read the book Same Helps Recycle. We had music class today. We sang some fun new songs. For art today we used forks to make some flowers. We then painted a stem for them. For small group today we sorted letters based off if they were uppercase or lowercase. We got outside a for a little bit this morning. It was pretty cold.

April 16, 2021 Happy Friday! This morning we did stencils. We also built many fun things using blocks and other things. During circle time today we talked about where we should put trash. We then put some things around the floor to represent trash. We turned a fan on and were able to see what happens when we do not put trash in a trash can and leave it laying all over. We then read the book The Adventures of Gary and Harry. We saw what could happen to ocean animals if we put trash in the ocean. We celebrated a birthday today. Happy birthday! We went to the gym today. We did races on scooters. For art today we colored a coffee filter to make it look like earth. We then sprayed it with water. For small group we filled a glass jar with water. This represented the air outside. We put shaving cream on top (clouds). We then put drops of water (with food coloring) in. That showed us rain as it came down.

April 14, 2021 Happy Wednesday! Today we talked about trash. We talked about if all trash stinks or not. We then read the book I Stink! It was about a garbage truck. We had a tornado drill today. We practiced where we would go and what we would do if we had a tornado. We had SEEDS class today. The theme was Jesus surprises his friends. We talked about when Jesus rose and how that made everyone feel. For art today we made a flower pot using our handprint and fingerprints. For small group we used toothpicks and playdough to make different shapes. We then talked about how many sides each shape has.

April 12, 2021 Happy Monday! This morning we used watercolors to paint a newspaper circle. We then used this during art time. During circle time today we read the book Something from Nothing. We have read this book before. The boy started with a blanket. He then turned it into many other things instead of throwing it away when it was old. We also explored magnets and got to find some things in the room that are magnetic. We had music class today. We were super excited because it has been a while since we have had music. For small group today we played bowling. We then worked on subtracting how many pins we knocked over. For art we used the circle we painted to make a snail. We also went down to an empty hallway and had a race since we were not able to get outside this morning.

April 7, 2021 Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful break! This morning during circle time we started a new unit on Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. We sang a fun song than talked about ways to recycle. We read the book There Was an Old Lady who Swallowed some Trash and Recyclables. We also talked about words that end in "op". We had SEEDS class today. The theme was Jesus is Risen! For art today we used recycled cardboard from boxes to make a robot. For small group we worked on using tally marks. We did not get outside because of the rain so we had a dance party in the classroom.

March 26, 2021 Happy Friday! We had a great last day before Spring break! We colored some Easter pictures, used dot markers, and had fun playing with a marble maze. For circle time today we read Easter Bunnies Amazing Day. We also played Easter Bingo. We went to the gym today. We played with balloons. Everyone had a wonderful time with this! For small group today we made a Holy Cross. We had pictures of Jesus on Palm Sunday, The Last Supper, On the Cross, etc. We talked about what the pictures are. For art today we made a marbled Easter egg. We put shaving cream down. We put some paint on it. We then swirled it around with a q-tip to make a marbled look. We put an egg on top of it and they turned out very pretty!

March 24, 2021 Happy Wednesday! This morning we did a color worksheet to work on sight words and numbers. For circle time today we celebrated a birthday. They brought bubbles to pass out so they are in backpacks. Thanks! We worked on numbers, we talked about what Easter is about, and we read Happy Easter Mouse! We had SEEDS class today. The theme was We Welcome Jesus. We talked about ways to make Him feel welcomed and how we can help other people feel welcomed. For small group today we worked on a positional words book. For art we used chalk to trace around a bunny. We then used our finger to smudge it. We did not get outside today so we had a dance party in the classroom.

March 22, 2021 Happy Monday! This morning we colored and cut out jelly beans. We then glued them on a piece of paper to make a jelly bean prayer. We said the prayer at snack time while we ate a few jelly beans. We also played with some bugs in our sensory table. For circle time today we read the book There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Chick! We practiced rhyming words as well as words ending in 'ug'. We had music class today. We worked on keeping the beat. For small group today we cut out and practiced rhyming words. For art we used a squeegee to paint an Easter egg. Everyone really enjoyed this! March 19, 2021 Happy Friday! Today we practiced our cutting skills by cutting some foam. We also played with playdough. For circle time today we read the book The Tiny Seed. We also practiced rhyming words and worked on words that end in "at". We went to the gym today. We put on our Leprechaun hats we made on Wednesday. We then hid pieces of gold (pom pom balls) around the gym for others to find. For art today we made a dandelion painting using a fork. For small group we counted flowers and then wrote how many we found. We also used clay and bugs to make some bug fossils.

March 17, 2021 Happy St. Patrick's Day! We had a lot of fun today! This morning we sorted marshmallows in Lucky Charms (we will do a graphing activity with this this afternoon), played with green playdough, and looked for gold coins in sand. We also had a surprise visit from a Leprechaun who hid chocolate coins around the room for us to find! During circle time today we danced to some St. Patrick's day songs. We also read the book How To Catch a Leprechaun. We talked about some of the leprechaun traps we want to make. We got a special cookie snack today! We had SEEDS class today. The theme was God makes food for us. We talked about how God provides us food and how we can help our families make food. For small group we cut out some shamrocks and then sorted them by size. For art today we made a St. Patrick's day hat. Everyone pretended they were leprechauns then and moved quietly around the room so they wouldn't get trapped. They really used their imaginations today!

We also talked about who St. Patrick was and what he did. We read the book The Luckiest Leprechaun. We also danced to some St. Patrick's Day music. For art we did a Shamrock marble painting. For small group we colored and read a book about St. Patrick.

March 12, 2021 Happy Friday! We had a great day today! This morning we worked on a letter puzzle, built with straw builders and colored. For circle time today we read the book The Pot That Juan Built. We also talked about some different buildings (pet store, library, etc.) and what we do in them. We went to the gym today. We played Monkey's and Banana's. It's a game similar to tag. Everyone had a lot of fun with it. For art today we decorated some houses and designed a roof to put on them. For small group we worked on numbers. We rolled a number dice (21-26) and had to identify the number and then find it on our paper. We were also able to play outside today. It was a little cool but another beautiful day. We are all excited for Spring!

March 10, 2021 We had a great day today, even though we could not get outside this morning. We started the day by playing with felt, finding rabbits in shaving cream, and working on beginning sounds. We were also able to play with dress up clothes. During circle time today we worked on rhyming. We also read the book Changes, Changes. This book had no words. It was about two people who used blocks to build different things. We had fun guessing what they were going to make. We had SEEDS class today. The theme was God is always with me. We also talked about different things we might be afraid of. For small group today we worked on putting things in order from shortest to tallest. We also worked on writing letters and putting them in order. For art today we made an X- Ray to help us work on the letter X. We also continued with our Virtus lesson. We talked about having a Safety Network of adults we can trust. We will do an activity with that this afternoon and come up with people we have in our Safety Network.

March 8, 2021 Happy Monday! We started our day by playing with moondough, dominoes, and number puzzles. We also played with our Easter sensory table. During circle time today we did calendar, we then read The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. In this story the Wolf told his side of the story. We also talked about the letter X today. We had music class today. We sang some fun Spring songs. We started our Virtus lessons today. We read about feelings and what makes us feel safe and unsafe. For small group today we built some different letters with popsicle sticks. We also did a letter X worksheet. For art we drew a picture of our classroom. We pretended we were looking from the ceiling and drew some of the different things we saw. We will color them this afternoon.

It gave us step by step directions of how to build a house. We also talked about what we would make if we were able to build something. We had SEEDS class today. The theme was Jesus wants us to pray. We did not finish all the activities so there are some things to color and cut out when they get sent home on Friday if you would like. For small group today we worked on patterns. We did some action patterns. We then stamped a pattern. For art today we used a brown bag, filled it with newspaper, and then decorated it to look like a house.

March 1, 2021 Happy March! We are continuing our building study this week. We started the morning by drawing a town. We also used blocks to build different structures. During circle time today we practiced the letter Y. We practiced the sound, practiced writing the letter, and came up with some words that start with Y. We read the book Build It From A to Z. We came up with a bunch of construction/building words. We had music class today. We sang many fun songs including my favorite, Down By The Bay! For art today we traced and cut out our hand. We then put a 'yo-yo' on the paper. For small group today we practiced sorting in different categories. We had five different categories (food, clothing, transportation, musical instruments and ocean animals). We then were given an object and we had to decide where to put it.

February 26, 2021 We started our day by talking about who lives in our house with us. We then drew a picture of everyone we live with. We also painted with tooth brushes on a big tooth. For circle time today we read Buildings, Buildings, Buildings. We also watched a video on dental health. We went to the gym today. We worked on kicking skills. For art today we used the picture of our family we drew. For each person or pet that lives in our house we glued a colored square onto a house we cut out. For small group today we worked on solving story problems. We each had 10 animal counters. I then gave them a problem (7 animals were playing in the yard, 2 more came, how many are there now?) We used the counters to help us solve the problem.

February 24, 2021 Happy Wednesday! We are talking about dental health this week in addition to buildings. We started the day by doing some teeth puzzles, brushing away cavities, and cutting out pictures of food and sorting them (good for teeth/bad for teeth). We also played with a dentist kit. For circle time today we worked on the letter V. We came up with a list of V words and worked on writing the letter. We went to the church today! It was a lot of fun because we have never been there as a class. We looked at all the Stations of the Cross and talked about what is happening in them. We had SEEDS class today. The lesson was about growing and how Jesus is both human and divine. For small group today we worked on rhyming. We came up with many different pairs of rhymes. For art today we cut out a letter V. Glued it onto a piece of paper to make a vase and then added some flowers. We went for a short walk today to look at some of the different buildings next to our school. We also had a friend lose a tooth today at lunch. Exciting!

February 22, 2021 Happy Monday! This morning we decorated our town paintings we made on Friday. We added some people, doors, cars, etc. to it. During circle time today we looked at Google Maps. We found our school and looked at some buildings near the school. We read the book A Chair For My Mother. It was about a family who had a fire in their house. They then saved their money so they could buy a chair. We had music class today! We sang many songs to work on keeping the beat. For art today we did a directed drawing. We went step by step and drew a house. For small group today we worked on compound words. We also enjoyed the beautiful weather today!

We then talked about different types of buildings a town has. We also played a game where we had to pick out letter sounds. We went to the gym today. We worked on our kicking skills by kicking balls to each other. For small group today we worked on sorting by color and sizes. For art today we made our own town. We drew a road and some trees. We then used sponges and paint to paint houses and buildings onto it.

February 17, 2021 Welcome back! We started a new unit on buildings today. We started the day by drawing some pictures of different buildings and structures. We also used blocks to make different designs. We also got to play with a new construction dramatic play. During circle time today we read The Three Little Pigs. We talked about what makes a strong house and what we know about buildings. We also worked on the letter W today, coming up with W words and writing the letter. We talked about President's day as well. We had SEEDS class today. The theme was Jesus teaches good news about God. We also talked about Ash Wednesday. There is a special book and a cross necklace coming home in folders today. For art today we used straw, sticks, and bricks to build houses like the three little pigs. For small group we talked about more and fewer. We also made and Ash Wednesday book.

February 12, 2021 Happy Valentine's Day! We had a very fun day today! We started our day by making some Valentine's crowns that we were able to wear all day. We also got to play with a light table, something new to our room. For circle time today we played Valentine's Day bingo (helping us identify letters) and won some prizes. We had a special snack today. We got yogurt with granola and Valentine's Day sprinkles in it. We then went to the gym and had a dance party to some Valentine's music. For our party today we took turns passing out our Valentine's we brought and put them into everyones bags. Thank you everyone for bringing them. We also had some stations set up. We made heart bracelets, used playdough and toothpicks to make structures, painted with hearts and q-tips, and used heart candies as dominoes. We also got to walk up to the 8th grade classroom (our 8th grade buddies) and deliver the Valentine's we had made for them.

February 10, 2021 We had a wonderful day today. This morning we had puzzles, playdough, and chalk out at the tables. We also played a letter identification game on the smartboard. For circle time today we did calendar, weather, did a rhyming activity, and read the book I Love it When You Smile. We had SEEDS class today. This weeks theme is I Tell Jesus' Good News. There is an activity on the last two pages that you can do at home if you choose. For art today we used cotton balls and glued them on a cloud. We also cut out some hearts to make a cloud mobile. For small group we worked on counting and writing numbers. We also had a dance party in the classroom since we are not able to get outside.

February 8, 2021 Happy Monday! We started our day by making some valentine's cards for our parents. They are in folders. We also painted on the easel. For circle time today read the book How Do Dinosaurs Say I Love You. We then talked about how it makes us feel when people tell us they love us. We worked on letter Z today, coming up with Z words and working on writing the letter. We did not have music class today so we had a dance party in the classroom to help us get some energy out. For small group today we worked on identifying beginning sounds. For art today we made our valentine's bags we will use on Friday. We also read The Monster who Lost his Mean. We then talked about ways to be kind to each other.

February 5, 2021 Happy Friday! We had a great day. We started our day by making valentine's, playing with shaving cream, and building with cups and popsicle sticks. We also made valentine's for our 8 grade buddies! For circle time today we read the book The Girl Who wore too Much. We then talked about how we don't need a lot of things to be happy. We also got a valentine from our 8th grade buddies along with a treat. They are in folders. We went to the gym today. We worked on dribbling again. Everyone is getting really good at it! For small group today we worked on a letter J worksheet. For art we made a melted snowman. We used sponges with white paint to make it and we will glue the parts of the snowman on this afternoon. We also read Maya was Grumpy and talked about what makes us grumpy and how we make ourselves feel better. We were not able to get outside today so we did some dancing inside.

February 3, 2021 We had a wonderful day today! We got a new student in the class. He started today. Everyone was very helpful with showing him the routine and where things are in the classroom. This morning we made some special cards to give to our grandparents. During circle time today we read Something from Nothing. It was about a little boy who's grandpa made him a blanket. As time went on they turned the blanket into a jacket, vest, tie, and button. We also played number bingo to work on our numbers. We had SEEDS class today. The theme for this week was People of all ages follow Jesus. For small group today we did a number connect the dots. For art today we put some paint on paper and then used a comb to mix the colors. We then talked about what colors they turned into.

February 1, 2021 Happy February! We had a wonderful day today. In dramatic play we set up a flower shop. We were able to make different flower arrangements. For circle time today we read Little Red Riding Hood. We also talked about the letter J today. We came up with words that start with J and practiced writing the letter. We had lots of kids dress up for book character day. We looked at our outfits and then talked about what our favorite books are. We had music class today. Mrs. Gorr along with a Kindergarten teacher dressed up as Piggy and Elephant from the series by Mo Willems and acted out many of the stories. We also got to hear them play a trumpet. January 29, 2021 Happy Friday! We had a wonderful day today. We started our day by making valentine's, playing with playdough, and doing dot markers. For circle time today we talked about the letter U. We also practiced the months of the year. We read Goldilocks and the Three Bears today. We sang a song about a heart to help get us ready for Valentine's day and everyone was super interested in what kind of organs we have, bones, etc. We will have to talk more about these things. We went to the gym today. We practiced dribbling some balls. For small group today we practiced the letter U. We also talked about the number 20. For art today we cut out and painted an umbrella.

January 27, 2021 We had a great day today. We started our day by using stencils to work on our fine motor skills. We also had some play time this morning and were able to color on the easel. For circle time today we read Who Wears What? and talked about some of the different things people wear for different jobs. We also played letter Bingo to work on identifying letters. We had SEEDS class today. We talked about ways Jesus brings us peace and ways we can be peaceful at home and at school. For small group today we played a matching game identifying different things people wear/use. For art today we did string art. We had different string and put them in paint. We then put it on our paper to make whatever design we wanted.

January 25, 2021 Happy Monday! We have been having a great day today. For circle time today we talked about where we get our clothes (store, gifts, hand-me-downs, etc.). We read the book A Pocket for Corduroy today. We also came up with words starting with U and practiced writing Uu. We had music class today. We worked on keeping the beat. We were also able to see how we could make clothes. Mrs. Stavos came in and showed us how to knit. For small group today we worked on counting and writing the number to match. For art today we cut out some overalls. Made a pocket with a button and then glued it on a bear cut out to make Corduroy!

January 22, 2021 Happy Friday! We had a great day today. We started our day by doing some puzzles. The kids do not choose them at free play very often so I thought we would give them a try! During circle time today we talked about the letter Q. We read the book The Mitten by Jan Brett. Everyone really enjoyed listening to it! For centers today we worked on positional words. We were each given a cup and a bear. The kids were asked to put the bear beside, behind, on, inside, etc. We then did a worksheet where we had to glue pictures below the tree, on the mitten, etc. For art today we talked about symmetry. We painted on one side of a paper mitten. We then put the other mitten on top of it and when we took them apart we were able to see the same design on both sides. We did not get outside this morning because of the cold weather. Instead we read the book Grumpy Pants and then talked about what makes us grumpy and how we can make ourselves feel better. We also went down to the gym and played What Time is it Mr. Fox.

January 20, 2021 Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful, long weekend! We talked about Martin Luther King Jr. today. During circle time we read The Story of Martin Luther King Jr. We then talked about what he did and why it was important. We then did an egg experiment. We had three different color eggs (white, light brown, and brown). We talked about who would eat which one and why. We talked about how they are different and if we think they will look different on the inside as well. I then cracked the eggs open and we were able to see what they look like on the inside and how they are the same. We then had a discussion on different color skin, same rights, etc. We also talked about the letter Q today and came up with some words that start with Q. For small group we did a worksheet to go along with the egg experiment. For art today we talked about a dream we have is and then did a craft to go along with it.

January 13, 2021 We had a great day today! We started our day by playing with playdough and shaving cream. For circle time today we looked at some different articles of clothing and described how they look, feel, etc. We also sorted some pictures based on if they start with the letter B or not. Our read aloud today was Llama Llama Red Pajama. We then talked about some of the different pajamas we wear. We had SEEDS class today. We talked about the importance of listening. For art today we colored some pajamas to look like pajamas we might have or want. For small group we cut apart some different pictures. We then glued the ones that start with a B onto a picnic basket to have a letter B picnic.

January 11, 2021 Happy Monday! We are starting a new unit on clothes! We put some clothes in our dramatic play area along with a washer, dryer, and iron. We had so much fun washing some clothes. For circle time today we read the book Caps for Sale by Esphyr Slobodkina. We also talked about the letter B. We came up with words starting with B as well as practiced writing it. We had music class today. We worked again on keeping the beat. We also got to see and hear a rainstick. For small group today we practiced matching rhyming words. For art today we drew a picture of something that starts with the letter B.

January 8, 2021 Happy Friday! We started our day by building structures with legos and other types of building materials. In our sensory table we put some snow and we got to dig with shovels. During circle time today we read Shante Keys and the New Year's Peas. We then talked about some of the foods we eat on New Years. We went to the gym today! We ran some laps and played red light green light. When we got back to the classroom we played Bingo. We practiced identifying different colors and shapes. For small group today we used 2 or 3 dice. We added up what we rolled and then found the number on a piece of paper. For art today we made some fireworks. First we drew the shape of firework we wanted. We then put glue on it. Covered it with salt. Then we painted it with water colors. Everyone said they had a lot of fun doing this project!

January 6, 2021 Happy Wednesday! We had another great day! During circle time today we talked about New Years. We learned about the Chinese New Year and read the book Bringing in the New Year. We also did a number activity where we put the numbers 0-20 in order. We had SEEDs class today. We talked about baptism and what it means. For small group today we worked on identifying beginning sounds. We also worked on the number 17. For art today we used cups and bottles caps to stamp. We put the cup in some paint and made a collage of circles. They turned out great! We had some fun outside and enjoyed the nice weather!

January 4, 2021 Welcome back! We had a great first day back to school. We started our morning by playing with playdough, stamping, and tracing stencils. We also got to play with our new dramatic play set up, a vet clinic. For circle time today we talked about New Year's resolutions. We read the book Squirrels New Year's resolution and came up with a resolution we would like to do this year. We are talking about the letter F this week. We came up with some words that start with letter F and practiced writing the letter. We had music class today. We worked on following a beat. For small group today we worked on sight words as well as graphing. For art today we painted on a piece of paper to make a 2021 picture.

December 21, 2020 We started our day by decorating some New Years crowns. They are being sent home and can be worn on New Years! During circle time today we talked about the letter L. We can up with a list of L words, wrote the letter L, and talked about the sound it makes. We played a game today where we had to find a bunch of Christmas pictures that were hidden around the room. When we found them we had to write the first letter of the word on our paper. We read the book There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Bell today. We got a special snack today, we had a cookie! Today we had music class. We sang and danced to some Christmas songs. For small group today we talked about Needs (house, food, etc.) and wants (toys, etc.). We then did a sorting activity to go with this. For art today we made a snowflake ornament. We also played Christmas bingo today! We got a few prizes when we got a bingo. Check backpacks for these as well as the ornament.

December 18, 2020 Happy Friday! We had a great day today! We started our day by decorating some life size gingerbread men. We also got to play with a new Thomas the Train train set. During circle time today we talked about the number 15. We also did a color sorting and counting activity. We read the book No Room at the Inn today and talked about the birth of Jesus. We got to watch a Christmas movie today. We watched Winnie the Pooh's Christmas. We also got to eat some cotton candy while we watched the movie. Everyone has a container of leftover cotton candy in their backpacks to eat the rest at home. During small group today we did a number puzzle where we had to put numbers in the correct order to make a picture. For art today we made a Christmas tree in a window.

December 16, 2020 Happy Wednesday! We started our day by doing many fun Christmas activities. We used pattern blocks to make different Christmas shapes (tree, wreath, etc.), we decorated a felt Christmas tree, and we wrote Christmas cards and letters. We then got to put a "stamp" on it to be "mailed". We also used dot markers to make a Christmas tree. During circle time today we read the book Snowmen at Night. We also played a number memory game. We had SEEDS class today. We talked about the birth of Jesus and the Holy Family. During small group today we rolled some letter dice. We then came up with some words that start with that letter. For art today we made a reindeer. We also made some reindeer food that will be sent home on Friday. We read the book Glad Monster, Sad Monster this afternoon. We then talked about what things make us happy, sad, angry, excited, etc.

December 11, 2020 Happy Friday! We had a great day today! Everyone was full of energy. We started our day by decorating a Christmas tree. We also got to unwrap and rewrap our "presents" that were under the tree. In the sensory table we had shaving cream that was "snow" and we played with trucks and dinosaurs in it. During circle time today we talked about our favorite colors. We also read the book A Silly Snowy Day. We took a tour of the school today. K-8 did not have school today so we went around and look at all the rooms. We say the lunch room, Kindergarten rooms, and everyones favorite was the 'secret stairway' leading to the church. December 9, 2020 Happy Wednesday! We started our day by painting a paper plate green. We made a wreath with this during art time. We also set up a wrapping paper station in our classroom. We practiced wrapping some boxes and then we put them under our Christmas tree to unwrap later. In our sensory table we had yarn, that we cut apart on Monday. We hid some jingle bells in there and we had to find them. During circle time today we talked about wreaths. We read the book The Smiley Snowman and talked about feelings. We also celebrated a half birthday today. We had SEEDS class today. We talked about ways to get ready for Christmas. During centers today we played a letter matching game. For art today we decorated our wreaths we painting in the morning. We loved the weather today! It was a lot of fun playing outside.

December 7, 2020 I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! We started our morning by cutting and pulling off some pine needles from part of a tree. We then used those needles and glued them onto a Christmas tree cutout. We will decorate the trees on Wednesday. During circle time today we celebrated a birthday and got a special treat from him in our backpacks. We also got to listen to our 8th grade buddies read us a story. They sent us a video of them reading Twas the Night before Christmas. We worked on the letter G, coming up with G words and practiced writing the letter. We recorded our Christmas program today! Everyone did very well and looked very nice! I cannot wait for everyone to see it. We then celebrated with cookies for doing such a great job! For centers today we worked on counting and identifying numbers. We rolled two dice, added up the total, then used a dot marker to mark the number off a gingerbread man. For art today we made a stain glass window Christmas tree (tissue paper on contact paper).

For circle time today we read the book 100 Snowmen. We also talked about St. Nicholas and got a special chocolate coin to eat at home. During centers today we worked on the number 13. We also played Nativity Bingo. For art today we made a Nativity scene. We watched a movie today and had a special snack. The movie we watched was Peppa Pig's Christmas.

There are some at home activities to cut out in the SEEDS magazine when they get sent home. During small group time today we made a bar graph. During art today we painted with Christmas bows. We put glitter on it and turned it into a present!

November 30, 2020 Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving! Today we started our day by practicing our cutting skills. We also got to play with lots of new things. We played with some nativity dolls, played with cars and dinosaurs on a new road I brought, and decorated a Christmas tree. During circle time today we read the book 'A Christmas Story'. We also talked about what Advent is and "lighted" our first candle on our Advent wreath. Our weekly focus this week is: Number- 13 Letter- Dd Sight words- can, your, when. We had music class today. We sang to some fun Christmas songs. During centers today we made our own book about Advent. For art today we worked on fine motor skills by ripping paper and then gluing them on to make our own Advent wreath.

We talked about what talents we have and how we can use them to help God and others. During centers today we used pattern blocks to make a turkey. For art today we made a turkey. November 13, 2020 Happy Friday! Today we started our morning by tracing our hands and then cutting them out. We got lots of practice with cutting! We used these for our art project. We had a lot of fun playing with our new grocery store! We were able to use a shopping list to help pick out what food we need to buy. We used money to buy our food. Some of use were able to be the cashier and some were able to bag the groceries. It was a lot of fun! During circle time today we talked about scarecrows. We also talked about some of the jobs people do on farms. We went to the gym today. We read the book "We're Going on a Bear Hunt" and did the movements while we were down there. November 4, 2020 Happy Wednesday! We started our morning by using paint dabbers to write our name. We then drew a picture of ourselves. This morning we also talked about the election. We then voted! We voted for what we want our door design to be this winter (snowman, penguin, or reindeer). The reindeer won! In our sensory bin today we put water. We then used rags to wash some of our dishes. On the easel we had some pocket charts and we worked on shape sorting and putting numbers in order. During circle time today we read the book A Tree is For... We then talked about what we use trees for. During center time today we worked on the number 9. For art today we made shooting stars! We have really been enjoying the nice weather outside! October 30, 2020 We had a wonderful Halloween party!!! We had lots of fun and got lots of prizes! We started our day by coloring on some pumpkins. We then played some games. Some of the games we played are Pin the Stem on the Pumpkin, spider web balancing, and Ghost cup stacking. During circle time today we read the book Go Away Big Green Monster. We also sang and danced to some Halloween songs. We then participated in an all school Bingo game! We were very excited when we got a Bingo and received a prize. After Bingo we had a very special snack, Ghost's in a Graveyard (pudding, Oreo cookies, and marshmellows. During center time we worked on our counting skills and writing numbers. We also made a handprint monster. We then played a couple more games. They were Ring toss (glow sticks and a pumpkin) and an obstacle course (Balancing and eye on a spoon).

October 28, 2020 We started our day by painting pumpkins! We had a lot of fun with this and we will use them to decorate our room for our Halloween party! During circle time today we read the book Pumpkin Countdown, sang a days of the week song, and played Musical Pumpkins. We walked around in a circle and when the music stopped we had to stop on a pumpkin. We then identified the letter that was on our pumpkin. We had music class today. We sang many fun songs! October 23, 2020 Happy Friday! This morning we practiced writing our names, did a sorting activity, and used water bottles to put out "fire" (shaving cream on toys). During circle time today we talked about "stop, drop, and roll". We also read the book Where's My Mummy? to help us get ready for Halloween. We had our visit today with the firefighters. It was a lot of fun! Everyone was full of questions! We got to see the firefighters put on all of their gear. We then went out to see a fire truck. Everyone really enjoyed doing this! October 21, 2020 We started our day today by painting on the easel. We painted flames with red and orange paint. We also worked on making patterns. We did a science experiment this morning. We mixed baking soda and vinegar to see what would happen. Everyone was very excited to see it start foaming! During circle time today we talked about what you would do if there was a fire in school or at home. We read the story 3 Little Firefighters. We then did a sorting activity that went along with the story. During centers today we made a firefighter craft. We also worked on the number 7. We had a lot of fun playing in the snow. October 19, 2020 We are talking about fire safety this week! We will have a visit from some firefighters on Wednesday. We started our day today by painting. We used a paper plate and painted it red. We then turned it into a firefighter hat. We will wear the hats on Wednesday when we see the firefighters. During circle time today we read the book No Dragons For Tea. We talked about what to do if there is a fire in your house. If you have not talked to your child yet about this, it would be a great week to do it! October 14, 2020 Happy Wednesday! We did a lot today. Today during circle time we talked about bee hives, we identified some rectangles around the classroom, we sang the days of the week song, and we read the book The Grouchy Ladybug. Everyone is getting very good at knowing the days of the week! We had our SEEDS lesson today. We discussed feelings as we listened to the stories. During centers today we worked on identifying words that begin with the N sound. We also worked on rhyming and the number 6. During art today we used acorns and pinecones to paint. We put them in a box along with some paint. We then moved the box back and forth to create our picture. They will be sent home next week.

October 9, 2020 This morning during check in we stamped with apples. They started by coloring their tree brown. Then we used apple halves to stamp. We used red, orange, and yellow paint to make a fall tree. We also put some corn in our sensory table. We had fun taking the kernels off the cob. During circle time today we talked about trees. We also have been doing a lot of practice with the days of the week. We sing a days of the week song everyday. We went to the gym today and continued to work on our kicking skills. We also started working on tossing balls. We enjoyed the nice weather again. Hopefully it lasts!

October 5, 2020 Happy Monday! We had a very fun morning. We started our day by getting new table spots for the month of October. Everyone is super excited to be at a new table/with new friends. We then started our art project. We traced our hand and part of our arm and colored it brown to make a tree trunk. Then during center time we used q-tips to make dots for the leaves. October 2, 2020 Happy Friday! We celebrated two birthdays today! Birthday treats are being sent home in backpacks. Thank you for bringing them! This morning we worked on painting our apples from Wednesday. Some of us painted them red and some painted them green. We then cut out ovals to use as the leaves for the apples. They turned out great! Our book today was Crazy Pizza Day. We talked about what kind of pizza is our favorite and did a journal entry about it. We went to the gym today. We sang a song and then moved like the different animals in the song. We also continued working on our kicking skills. We practiced kicking a ball to a partner and then stopping it with our foot. September 30, 2020 We had a very busy day today. We talked about pinatas today. We talked about how you make them, what is in them, and if we have used one before. We did a paper mache project this morning, similar to how you make a pinata. We used a balloon as a base, put newspaper around it (we cut them on Monday to work on our cutting skills), and covered it with glue. We got very messy, but really enjoyed it! We will paint them on Friday. The end result will be an apple. We had our next lesson in SEEDS today. Our lesson today was about choices. During centers today we talked about ovals. September 25, 2020 Happy Friday! We had a lot of fun today! During circle time we read the book The Adventures of Gary and Harry, A Tale of Two Turtles. We then made our own turtles using triangles! We also went to the gym today! We practiced kicking balls using the side of our foot. We then worked on stopping the ball with our foot. Everyone did very well and had a great time with this! September 23, 2020 We had a great picture day today! Everyone was dressed up very nice! They asked when we can do another picture day. Today during circle time we practiced the days of the week. We sang a fun song to help us learn the order. We started our religion curriculum today, SEEDS. We listed to a story and then practiced retelling the story. Our read aloud today was A World of Families by Trish Holland. After reading the story we talked about what our families are like and what we do with them.

September 21, 2020 Welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! This morning during circle time we talked about what season will be starting. We discussed what happens in the Fall and read the book Autumn's First Leaf. It talked about the leaves changing colors. Our weekly focus for the week will be: number- 3 color- yellow Letter- Tt Shape- triangle Sight words- that, you, is
We also had our first music class today with Mrs. Gorr. We had a lot of fun. We sang many new songs and used rhythm sticks! Some pictures are posted!

September 18, 2020 Happy Friday! We had a very busy day in Prek. This morning during circle time we played a game where we matched sight words with a partner. Everyone did very good with this! We also practiced a lock down drill. Everyone did very well with staying still and silent. We talked about how we do that to keep everyone safe. We went to the gym today. We played a game where we had to toss a beanbag into a bucket. We then talked about where it landed (in front of, beside, behind, inside). During centers today we did a sunflower art project. We also worked on our sight words and talked about what a circle looks like.
This week we read a few books about baking things. The books included some recipes. I posted some pictures of the recipes in the photos section if you wanted to try them!

September 16, 2020 We did a lot today in pre-k. During circle time today we talked about letters and how you can put them together to make words. We did an activity where we sorted letters and words. We also sang Hickory Dickory Dock and talked about what we do with a clock. During center time we did an art project relating to the song. We also talked about the number 2 and and practiced drawing straight lines. The weather was super nice today! We enjoyed playing outside!

September 14, 2020 Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great weekend! We had a great day in Pre-K today! During circle time today we read the book Charlie Anderson. It is about a cat. We then talked about some of the cats we have and know. We started a new weekly focus. This week our letter is A, color is red, number is 2, shape is circle, and sight words are a, to, in. We practiced writing the letter Aa today and practice the sounds it makes. We also practiced identifying lower and upper case letters. For our art project today we painted a paper plate red and made an apple. They turned our great! We also had music class today. We used some egg shakers to make music as we sang along to some counting songs.

September 11, 2020 Happy Friday! We have had a great day in Pre-K today! We started our day by writing our names and having free play. During circle time we read the book Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkens. We also talked about the weather and calendar. We had gym class today. We ran laps and practiced our balancing skills by walking with a bean bag on our head. We had a lot of fun with that!
During centers today we did an art project. We made a rocket ship using the letters of our names. We also used dot markers to make a square. We worked and writing by tracing our sight words (the, of, and). Also we practiced putting the letters of our name in order by building an ice cream cone!
We had a fire drill today! Everyone had many questions about what we do when there is a fire. We all did a great job of walking out the building and following directions.

September 9, 2020 I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend! We have been having a great day today. Everyone got right back into the routine!!! Each week we will be working on a letter, number, color, shape, and sight words. This week we are learning about s, 1, blue, square, and the words the, of, and. We did many letter S activities today practicing the sound and how you write it. We also sang Humpty Dumpty today and made a Humpty Dumpty craft. Today we read the books I Like Me and A Pocket for Corduroy.
In your child's folder today you will see a note about the Marathon event. It will tell you how to donate. Please let me know if you have questions. There is also a t-shirt to wear on Fridays!
September 4, 2020 We have been having another great day!!! We continued to work on writing our names, we drew a self portrait, and we painted with watercolors! We also were able to go to the gym today. We ran some laps and played red light green light. It was a lot of fun! We enjoyed the beautiful weather by playing outside. The merry-go-round was a favorite.
We will be creating a family board in the classroom. If you would either print out a photo and send it in your child's folder or you could email it to me and I will print it out.

September 2, 2020 Today was a great first day of preK!!! We practiced writing our names, talked about our favorite things to do in school, and had some fun playing outside! Today we read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn and I'm Me by Sara Sheridan.
